Project Description

Region: Central America

Country: Mexico

Location: Monterrey, Nuevo Leon

Total Budget: $35,000

Area of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

Project Overview

This project aims to provide technical and soft skills to young migrants, refugees, and displaced persons aged 18 to 29, facilitating their economic integration into the Monterrey Metropolitan Area. Technical skills include maintenance, food service, and artisanal production using local resources. At the same time, participants will receive training in leadership, conflict resolution, and personal empowerment.

General Objective

To promote the employability of young migrants, refugees, and displaced persons by facilitating their entry into the labor market or supporting their entrepreneurial ventures, ultimately improving their quality of life and contributing to the local economy.

Specific Objectives

Promote the economic and social inclusion of people on the move.

Equip participants with practical tools to access formal employment or develop self-employment projects.

Strengthen social cohesion in Monterrey by integrating migrants as active contributors to the local economy.

Background

Nuevo León has seen a significant increase in migrant arrivals, with over 49,500 foreign residents in the state, according to the 2020 Population and Housing Census. The region has become an attractive destination for those seeking better living conditions. However, if this migration process is not properly managed, it may lead to social and economic exclusion, affecting both migrants and the local population. This project seeks to transform this challenge into an opportunity for economic integration and the development of a stronger social fabric based on a culture of peace.

Methodology

A participatory methodology will be used, combining theory and practice:

Technical skills: Maintenance, food service, and artisanal production.

Soft skills: Leadership, empowerment, and conflict resolution through a culture of peace.

Job placement: The project will facilitate direct employer connections through an active job board.

Certification: Workshops will serve as a competency certification, easing entry into the labor market.

Implementation Strategy & Timeline

Phases:

Preparation and workshop launch (Month 1).

Monthly workshops (Months 2-6).

Job placement and performance monitoring (during and after workshops).

Final report on results (Month 7).

Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
