The target population are rural families of the Northern Sierra of Peru with a minimal economy. They produce temporary crops and breeding for self-consumption, and surpluses to the local and regional market. The existing technology is traditional and precarious, and productivity is very low.
Their agricultural lands have low levels of fertility and overgrazing, they are vulnerable organizations with individual ties to the market and without any negotiation power or added value to the products.
Technological and financial transfer services for this sector are non-existent.
Paid job opportunities for rural youth and women in the highlands are very limited, having to travel to coastal cities for economic reasons.
The project will address five objectives:
i) Construction of dairy derivatives processing plants,
ii) Equipping for dairy derivatives processing plants,
iii) Strengthening capacities in dairy derivatives processing,
iv) Organizational strengthening and constitution of cooperative companies and
v) Marketing system and sales centers.
This year-long project would start as soon as funding is secured and the global grant approved.
The agricultural NGO CEDEPAS Norte will oversee the management of the plants. Our club will provide the equipping, PPE, implementation of sales centers, marketing assistance and administration of the plants.
