Project Description Country: India Location: Chennai Total Budget: $4,835 Areas of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene, The environment Activity Type: Community Development: General Summary: Provide materials and labor for beach Clean up Chennai is a coastal city in the south east part of India with a population of about 7 million. Beach outings are very common, as a result, creates large mounds of trash mainly of plastic. Nearby Coumb river which snakes thru the city also dumps more plastic trash to the ocean that end up in the southern parts of the beach. Namma Beach Namma Chennai, a non-profit NGO (http://reciprocityfoundation.in/nbnc/) called as NBNC, has been operating in the area since 2014 mainly with volunteers and some employees cleaning the beaches and properly disposing off the plastic and other trash. With the help of this project, the NBNC will be able to accomplish the following. 1. Hand gloves and Bags for trash pickup 2. Set up Concrete Bins and trash liners 3. Planting trees and landscaping 4. Classes for teaching beach residents to proper beach trash disposal Rotary Club of Madras in Dist. 3232 will distribute the funds and also supervise the project to completion. The extra 13.96 dollars will be funded by the NGO.
