The trafficking of girls in Nepal, particularly through the India-Nepal border, is a significant humanitarian issue that has persisted for years. It involves the illegal transportation of women and girls for various exploitative purposes, including forced prostitution, labor exploitation, human organ smuggling, sex,& slave labor, and domestic servitude.
Rescuing girls from trafficking in Nepal is a critical and urgent mission and involves various strategies and actions. Here's a breakdown of key approaches to effectively rescue and rehabilitate trafficked girls:
1. Awareness and Education
Community Programs: Conduct awareness campaigns in vulnerable communities to educate families about the dangers of trafficking and the tactics used by traffickers.
School Programs: Implement educational programs in schools that teach students about trafficking, their rights, and how to recognize unsafe situations.
2. Strengthening Legal Frameworks
Legislative Efforts: Advocate for strong laws and policies that protect against trafficking and ensure severe penalties for traffickers.
Training for Law Enforcement: Provide training for police and border officials to recognize and respond effectively to trafficking and to understand victims' needs.
3. Collaboration with Stakeholders and Community Groups
Partnerships: Work with local and international NGOs that specialize in trafficking prevention and victim support.
Rescue Operations: Organize coordinated rescue operations in collaboration with law enforcement to safely remove victims from trafficking situations.
4. Providing Safe Spaces and Rehabilitation
Shelters: Establish safe houses where rescued girls can stay temporarily and receive care and protection.
Psychosocial Support: Offer counseling and mental health support to help survivors cope with trauma and reintegrate into society.
Vocational Training: Provide skills training and educational opportunities to empower survivors economically and socially.
5. Reintegration into Society
Community Support Programs: Develop programs to promote social acceptance and reintegration of survivors into their communities.
Family Counseling: Work with families to facilitate understanding and healing, helping them to support the survivors' reintegration.
Every Daughter Matters is a project to stop or minimize girls trafficking from Nepal through the India-Nepal border by establishing booths in borders to monitor and aware the girls aware while entering India. At initial, three monitoring booths will be set up at three strategic locations near the India-Nepal Borders. And also rent the house for temporary shelters where rescued girls will be provided psychosocial counseling and vocational training so that they can re-integrate into family and society.
The timeline of this project is of one year. All funds will be used for the projects as per guidelines from The Rotary Foundation.
Member of Rotary Club of Dhulikhel will implement the projects and its members will continuously monitor this project.
