Location:
El Carmen, a rural community, located in the north of Peru; in an arid and desert area, approximately 50 km from the city of Piura.
Population: 1,600 inhabitants, and 320 homes.
Problem
The population has not had healthy water for more than 80 years. It supplies itself with drinking water, purchasing it at high cost, from tanker vehicles that arrive twice a week.
4.5 km from the town, there is a tubular well 150 meters deep, from which 6.5 liters of water are obtained per second. The laboratory analysis concludes that it is brackish, that it produces kidney problems and that it increases the risk of gastrointestinal diseases among the population. The population spends many hours transporting water to their homes.
Solution Proposal: OBJECTIVE
The installation of a reverse osmosis water treatment plant in the tubular well area will convert the brackish water into constant and sustainable human consumption.
GOALS: 1.Access for the entire community to drinking water, better sanitation and hygiene.
2. Strengthening communities to develop, finance and maintain sustainable water and sanitation systems.
3. Programs that familiarize the community with the benefits of drinking water, sanitation and hygiene.
