Project Description

Region: North America

Country: Mexico

Location: Rosarito Baja California

Total Budget: $36,980

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Families living in the outskirts of Rosarito Baja California Mexico, specifically in Ejido Plan Libertador Community, endure several issues that affect them; parents are employed in minimum wage jobs (approx. $47.00 USC per week), a single parent, usually the mother, supports many families because the father is absent or is a victim of addictions.

Ministerios y Comedor de Niños de Rosarito A.C. is a non-government, non-profit organization, which provides breakfast and lunch to children from 4 to 12 years old, who attend the public schools nearby.

Patricia Ramirez founded the organization informally in October of 2014, when she saw that children were missing school, because of lack of food; she decided to provide meals to a small group of children with her personal funds. The group of children beneficiated grew and she legally became Ministerios y Comedor de Niños Horizonte Rosarito A.C.

Currently, the organization serves approximately 200 meals per day. An outside organization helped to finance the building construction to house children in need and provide a place to complete their homework in a supervised facility, in addition to serve the meals mentioned.

Our project will provide water sanitation equipment to supply drinking water for the institution population, meal preparation and general activities. The surplus of drinking water generated by this equipment will be sold to members of the community at a lower price than what is available in the market. The GG also includes computing equipment, which will be installed permanently in a dedicated room of the building, to provide children necessary tools to prepare their homework.

This GG will benefit the families living in the area, by providing two free meals per day to approximately 200 children ages 4 to 12. Running water from faucets is not suitable for drinking in Mexico; the water sanitation equipment will provide easy, safe and affordable access to drinking water. The Computing equipment will provide the opportunity to improve their learning abilities.
