Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Steamboat Springs

Total Budget: $10,000

Area of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention

Activity Type: Peace: General

Summary: Electrical and Irrigation Improvements for Peace Pavilion in Steamboat Springs, CO, a structure built by the Steamboat Rotary Club and used by public, as well as for club events.

Since the building of the Peace Pavilion in 2014-15, we have struggled with two challenges: 1) Keeping trees and plant growth alive because of inadequate irrigation and root watering and 2) Having a proper sound system for peace programming and other club events (part of our vision for the Peace Pavilion.) This grant will allow us to purchase and install needed electrical and irrigation improvements to solve the current challenges named, as well as to considerably improve the beauty of the landscaping and Pavilion, an especially important goal for our hosting of the District 5440 in 2024, as well as for our 50th Club Anniversary. The timeline for the project is the spring and summer of 2022. Rotarians will provide significant labor over the course of the project.

Ellen,

I have cancelled the signatures so you can edit the project area. Due to the number of grant requests vs the amount of money the District had left for 2nd round grants we are reducing all grants by 31%. Please adjust your financing and budget to $2760 DDF and resign the grant by December 26th.

Quarterly update: We are currently in negotiations with the City of Steamboat Springs as to the allocation of costs and responsibilities for the Peace Pavilion update. Because of the delay in reaching clarity with the City, we did minimal work this spring and summer. The plans are to complete all improvements by Summer 2023.

Progress is being made on this grant: A MOU is being finalized with the City of Steamboat Springs, outlining the responsibilities of both the City and our Rotary Club; estimates are being created for the outside work to be completed this spring and updated signage is in progress.
