Summary: Dental and Eye Clinic for under served Children in Ensenada, Mexico

We provide one day Dental and Eye care services twice a year to children Identified by the Califia Ensenada Rotary Club that are under served. The Grant funds are used to buy dental supplies and eye glasses that are used the day of the clinics. We will treat 150 to 250 patients per day. At our October 2019 one day Clinic we saw 201 patients and provided over $106,009 in services.

Our club members assist before we go in purchasing supplies, working with the Califia Ensenada club in securing a local school to work from, logistics etc. Day of the clinic our Rotarian's, help set up the school for the Dental and Eye staff, unload the Dental van and supplies, help set up check in and later check out, work with the local Rotarian's , set up the Eye exam room, work with the Eye doctor to exam and provide glasses as needed, help the Dentists as needed. End of the day we pack everything back up, reorganize the classrooms that were used and try to leave the classrooms as we found them.

Kids who need glasses to see get them and will likely do better in school. The Dentists provide dental services like filling cavities, pulling teeth, general Hygiene. Kids who are not in pain and have healthy teeth are more likely to be healthier and stay in school. Club members are 4-15 per Clinic. There can be 50 to over 100 Rotarian's, Interactors, Exchange students, volunteers , dentists, optometrists and others that participate and help each day of the clinic. It truly is a village!

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

This project which involved a physical execution of a Dental and Vision clinic had to be canceled due to the COVID 19 pandemic and associated restrictions. The project funds were reallocated to three other projects.

One of them, meals delivered to a HomeAid Shelter was already approved as a grant under the matching grants. Another was RYLA a flagship program throughout Rotary and the third project was to support a renown operator of transitional housing, Mercy House. Final reports are attached.
