Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Long Beach, CA

Total Budget: $16,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: A minimum of 4500 meals being provided to Long Beach Community College and California State University Long Beach and additional food to stock the on campus food pantries in Long Beach, California.

Our funding will be used to purchase easy to eat "to go" foods that are high in nutritional value and can be consumed primarily on campus. We will package 1500 day bags to be given to students who would otherwise lack access to food. Each bag will provide three non-perishable, easy to eat and prepare meals for students that will only require access to water and sometimes a campus microwave. In addition to the meal bags, this year we also wish to supply food to the campus pantries to meet the demand of many students in need of food due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Items may include: Canned tuna, chicken, Boost/Ensure protein drinks, protein bars, soup, chili, stew, cracker and cheese individual packages, instant oatmeal, granola, fruit cups, boxed fruit juice, raisins, peanut butter, crackers, mac and cheese, condiment packets, cups for mixing and sporks for eating and mixing.

In addition to food purchases primarily at Costco Business Store and Amazon, we will purchase bags and provide a snack for volunteers the day we package the food.
