Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development
Summary: Approximately 3000 people in the Chicagoland area will benefit from improved HVAC system and new track book shelving.
Project Summary: The Lithuanian Research and Studies Center is the largest Lithuanian academic institution outside of Lithuania. It hosts researchers from Lithuania, North America, and elsewhere throughout the world. Even Lithuanian experts from Japan have utilized and its research collections. The Center itself has published fifty scholarly books on Lithuanian history and culture. The Center works with all universities, academic institutions and archival entities in Lithuania.
The Center and its predecessor entities have outgrown a Chicago facility they have operated in since 1956 and have purchased a 7,000 square foot building in Lemont, Illinois. The building is in good condition but requires some refitting to accommodate the Center's books, periodicals, archives and artifacts - along with the students and scholars who will utilize it. HVAC and restroom work needs to be completed, along with the installation of movable tracked shelving to better utilize the space and accommodate future collections. Many scholars and individuals who seek to maintain Lithuanian Heritage will benefit from these improvements. Our center is known worldwide and is a cornerstone of cultural heritage that actively maintains a tradition of Lithuanian culture which is slowly diminishing throughout the world. We will finish the HVAC work and the installation of movable track bookshelves by May of 2019
