Thomas Nyang founded Jarweng Education Development (JED) to build schools in South Sudan with the help of Encinitas Rotary Club. Mr. Nyang, a member of East Escondido Rotary Club, found there is a need to maintain a connection with the South Sudanese people living in San Diego, especially children, to their homeland villages in South Sudan, so they would support the ongoing education of these villages. These people's language/culture is called "Thok-Naath". Each summer from June to August the program meets in San Diego (now at South Sudanese Community Center) at City High to teach Thok-Naath language and culture.
The program requires money for rental space $500, Transportation $600, food/snacks $2,100, materials $500 and teachers expenses $800. Approximates total $4,500. East Escondido Club will fund $1,000 and ask for matching funds from the district. The group will raise the additional funds through others.
Thomas Nyang will be involved daily with the supervision of the program. Dan Hazel, Past President of club will attend periodically to help and report back to the local club. This request will fund the school starting in June 2019.
