Typhoid fever, hepatitis, meningitis, diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (Comvac 5) as well as human papilloma virus are the key causes of death in sub-Sahara Africa, Nigeria inclusive. Apart from inadequate health care facilities to treat these ailments, the fundamental reason why these preventable ailments have continued to wreck havocs in Nigeria is lack of a preventive approach in the health care sector. Unlike in the Western world, vaccination in Nigeria has not been well articulated and executed. Apart from the fact that the awareness is still at the infantry stage, vaccine administration has been in the hands of governments. Although government agencies have been trying their best, no doubt the need for the private sector involvement (with strict supervision by government regulatory agencies) cannot be over-emphasised. Takuchara village has no medical facility. Vaccines represent the epitome of a preventive strategy to control diseases. Vaccination against these preventable diseases thereby will eradicate these ailments and reduce the risk of people getting sick. The Project fund will be used in vaccinating about 500 people against Hepatitis B, Meningitis, Yellow Fever, Tetanus, Polio and Typhoid. There is vaccination for Typhoid for three years, but we are proposing the latest discovery that protects for life Also, 200 females will receive Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) Vaccine that protects women against Cervical Cancer. This project will take three weeks to actualise and Rotary Club of Asokoro members will form part of the team sensitising the communities and mobilising them on days of vaccination. The medical doctors and nurse among us will also join the medical team that will be diagnosing, testing and vaccinating the people. We are estimating vaccination for an average of five hundred people. HPV and Polio that are for women and children alone are estimated for two hundred and 100 hundred people respectively. Polio shall attract no cost as local supply will be used by the Club members on the days of the vaccination.
