This project will provide access to safe and affordable water for the Mpintsin community in the Western Region of Ghana by connecting the community directly to a clean potable water distribution facility. The clean water system sources, cleans/treats and distributes water from the Pra River. This project will trench and install HDPE pipe 6-feet underground, from
the water facility to the Mpintsin community, creating a water system that will be managed by Ghana Water Limited. The project will install standpipe and smart metering technology to
200 homes, the school, and the market. The Mpintsin community is currently a water starved community without a clean and sustainable water solution.
Available data suggests that 69.7% of residents, especially in poor communities in Sekondi-Takoradi, lack access to safe water and rely on unsafe sources for their daily water needs. In December 2024, over 800 cases of cholera were reported, resulting in many hospitalizations and death. The women and children in this community spend much of their time in search of water for domestic uses and drinking. This affects the health, education, and economic prospects. Children abandon school in search of water to assist parents in their daily activities.
Once funded, this project will take 6-9 months to install. Tthis project will install a permanent water system for the community of Mpintsin that will be managed by Ghana Water Limited, and include 200 homes initially, the school, and a community source in the market. The project will deliver education and training, establish a community Water Users Association, and will measure and report seccess outcomes.
