Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Uganda

Location: Amolatar

Total Budget: $90,200

Area of Focus: Community economic development

Our club is currently preparing a Rotary Global Grant to expand our Village Savings and Loans (VSL) Project in Central Uganda. This is a collaboration with the Rotary Clubs of Kyoga Basin and Soroti Central, and our local NGO partner, AWIGOE. The project helps rural families, especially women, gain access to community-based savings, loans, and small business training. Since 2021, we've successfully established and trained 150 VSL groups, helping members triple their household income. The upcoming 2026 grant will expand the program to 200 groups and provide revolving capital loans ($50,000) through PostBank Uganda.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
