"Mental-Health Support for Adolescents in Ghetto Communities (MSAG) Project" is a two-year project that will be implemented in Kampala by the Rotary Club of Kampala-Naalya in collaboration with Butabika National Referral Mental Hospital. The project will train community health workers and teachers to screen youth for mental health issues, while simultaneously raising community awareness about where and how youth can access treatment and care, and establishing a clear referral system with the local mental health hospital for those who require its services. The project will be implemented in Kampala City, specifically in the Nakawa Division/Acholi Quarter.

2.1 GOAL

The goal of this project is to improve the mental well-being of adolescents and contribute to better educational outcomes.

2.2 OBJECTIVES

The specific objectives are:

1. To increase access to mental health and psychosocial support services by adolescents aged (12-17) years in Acholi Quarters, Ghetto Community in Kampala

2. To strengthen the capacity of teachers and health workers in identifying and managing mental health and psychosocial challenges among adolescent learners aged 12-17 years in the Ghetto community surrounding schools

3. To strengthen partnerships and collaboration among key actors for the delivery of holistic mental health services to the Adolescents in the targeted Ghetto community and surrounding schools.

2.3 EXPECTED OUTCOMES

1. Increased access to mental health and psychosocial support for adolescents aged (12-17) years in the Acholi Quarters Ghetto Community in Kampala.

2. Strengthened capacity of teachers in identifying and managing mental health and psychosocial challenges of adolescent learners aged 12-17 years in the Ghetto community surrounding schools.

3. Strengthened planning, partnerships, and collaboration among key actors for coordinated delivery of holistic mental health services to the Adolescents in the selected Ghetto community and surrounding schools.
