Forest Fire Reduction Project in Cerro Ilaló

This project aims to mitigate the risk of forest fires in Cerro Ilaló by implementing a Community Fire Management Plan in the San Juan Bautista Angamarca commune, Pichincha province, Ecuador.

Grounded in sustainability and community engagement, the initiative is structured around three key pillars:

Capacity Building & Environmental Education - Strengthening community knowledge and preparedness through fire prevention training and emergency response strategies.

Technological Innovation & Circular Economy - Implementing nature-based solutions for carbon capture, forest restoration, and sustainable land use.

Ecosystem Restoration & Environmental Impact Mitigation - Recovering degraded soil, promoting biodiversity, and launching a large-scale reforestation program.

Beyond fire prevention, this project will offset greenhouse gas emissions generated by the wildfires that affected Quito in September 2024. Its execution will be supported by seed capital funding, with strong collaboration from the Municipality of Quito, local communities, and key stakeholders committed to environmental resilience.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
