Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Malawi

Location: Chintheche

Total Budget: $30,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Malawi Tech Solutions empowers underprivileged communities in rural Malawi through transformative technology and engineering education, fostering opportunities for students to excel in the Information Technology industry and create a brighter, sustainable future for themselves and their communities.

Malawi Tech Solutions is focused on empowering students by providing opportunity and breaking the cycle of poverty. Malawi is the fourth poorest country in the world. This equates to extreme lack within the education system. Malawi schools lack funds for adequate resources, learning materials, and specialized education such as technology training.

Community Needs Due to Lack of Educational Resources:

1. Skill Development: Providing opportunities for individuals to learn new skills or trades that can lead to sustainable employment.

2. Student Motivation: Encouraging children to stay in school by offering engaging learning experiences and future career prospects.

3. Reducing Dropout Rates: Addressing barriers that cause students to leave school early by creating a supportive and resourceful learning environment.

4. Higher Education & Job Opportunities: Expanding access to further education and career pathways, empowering individuals to build a better future for themselves and their communities.

By addressing these needs, we can create lasting change and break the cycle of poverty through education and empowerment.

One of the most important skills that will be taught in this program is how to learn, how to grow, and how to succeed in life. Helping someone achieve an IT education will give them confidence, motivation, people skills, and hope for the future. The goal is to provide guidance on how to thrive instead of just survive.

Malawi Tech Solutions is currently established in our pilot school in Embangweni, Malawi. Embangweni Community Day Secondary School is currently training our first students, consisting of an equal number of male and female students. Following a four year IT certification at Embangweni Secondary School, Malawi Tech solutions goal is to advance our students on to a higher education at the local Tech University within Malawi, or to support our students to pursue a career in IT. A Rotary Global Grant will expand Malawi Tech Solutions to our second community, Bungano Community Day Secondary School.

Project Funds will be used to purchase tech equipment including computers, keyboards and mouses, projectors, learning materials, student materials such as pens, and writing notebooks, teacher salaries, equipment costs and repairs, internet access, power battery back up equipment.

Timeline: One year. Initial installment of the computer classroom and equipment, teacher training, course material preparation will occur during the school break. Tech Courses will begin during the start of the new school year and will continue until the completion of the school year.

Rotary Club Members can be involved by reviewing course material, researching affordable tech equipment, review scholarship applications, and even participate as a guest teacher at our schools.

Malawi Tech Solutions is a pioneer project, the first of its kind within Malawi. Just because a student lives in one of the poorest countries in the world doesn't mean they have any less of a passion for technology than a student with exposure at an early age. Malawi Tech Solutions will help the underprivileged students of Malawi, Africa to find and pursue their passion for technology. This groundbreaking program will change the lives of many people for generations to come.
