The project focuses on Narok County, Kenya, where schools face critical challenges including:
Water Scarcity: Chronic low rainfall leads to a lack of access to clean drinking water, forcing students to spend hours fetching water, which disrupts their education and affects their health.
Sanitation Deficiencies: Schools lack functional toilets, particularly for differently-abled students, compromising hygiene, privacy, and dignity.
Hygiene Education Gap: Limited awareness and resources result in poor hygiene practices, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases such as cholera and diarrhea.
Waterborne Illnesses: The absence of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation contributes to high rates of illnesses among students, further affecting attendance and learning outcomes.
The project will address the above needs by installing 10 water harvesting systems and gutters to collect rainwater in 10 schools.
The project will also build functional toilets tailored for differently abled students in one school. We will also focus on hygiene education.
