GRANT TITLE

Mobile Blood Donation Van for Life Saving Community Health Services

The Rotary Club of Ujjain ID 15206 District 3040 will provide a Mobile Blood Donation Van at Pushpa Mission Hospital & Maternity Home, Ujjain.

The Pushpa Mission Hospital is a unit of The Diocese of Ujjain, which serves humanity with the most ethics in the field of Disease Prevention and Treatment and Maternal and Child Health

The mobile van will help meet the increasing demand for blood and its components in Ujjain and surrounding regions by conducting blood donation drives in remote and underserved areas.

The project aims to enhance the center's capacity to collect, store, and distribute blood while raising awareness about the importance of blood donation. In the end, this will save lives and strengthen community health infrastructure.

The Blood Centre at Pushpa Mission Hospital was established in 2010-11 with the help of the Rotary Foundation (I) and TRF. The project's total budget was $55200.

Our esteemed international partners were the Rotary Club of Charlotte-South (D-7680), U.S., and the Rotary Club of Bergamo Nord, Italy (D-2040). The Matching Grant # 74246 and # 74318 respectively

1. Demand-Supply Gap:

o Currently, only two component blood banks serve Ujjain, leading to a resource strain.

o Hospitals and patients face delays or shortages during emergencies.

2. Accessibility Issues:

o Many villages lack transportation options, preventing willing donors from contributing.

• Patients in rural areas often travel long distances for blood products.

3. Awareness Deficiency:

o Awareness about voluntary blood donation remains low, especially in peri-urban and rural areas.

o Misconceptions and lack of education about blood donation limit donor participation.

HOW MEMBERS OF THE BENEFICIARY COMMUNITY INVOLVED IN FINDING SOLUTIONS?

• Collaboration with Local Leaders: Community leaders provided input on logistical challenges and suggested key areas to target.

• Feedback from Donors: Insights from regular and potential donors shaped the operational design of the van.

• Hospital Consultations: Partner hospitals identified the need for faster blood delivery and collection solutions.
