Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Kenya

Location: Kajiado County

Total Budget: $45,000

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

The proposed Yoshua Clinic project in Bisil, Kajiado County, Kenya, aims to improve healthcare delivery for a catchment population of approximately 5,000 people, including pregnant women, children, elderly patients, and those with chronic conditions. This initiative was informed by a comprehensive needs analysis conducted at the clinic through on-site visits and in-depth discussions with the clinic doctor, Francesca.

Currently serving over 500 patients monthly, the project seeks to enhance healthcare services by equipping the clinic with a range of essential items. These include assistive devices such as generic wheelchairs, lounge beds to improve patient comfort, a domestic water purification system to ensure access to safe drinking water, and critical medical equipment like a biochemistry analyzer, an ultrasound scanner with a printer, and an uninterrupted power supply system with surge protection.

Additional upgrades include networking, power desks, computers, and infrastructure for efficient operations. The project also includes logistics for monitoring and evaluation, community sensitization, caregiver training, and improved medical documentation processes. These interventions will support increased patient access and utilization, enabling the clinic to deliver timely and effective healthcare services while fostering better health outcomes across the community.

The projected long-term impact is Reducing the neonatal and newborn mortality rate; Reducing the mortality and morbidity rate of children under five; Reducing the maternal mortality and morbidity rate; Improving access to essential medical services, trained community health workers, and health care providers.

The timeline of the project is 6 (Six) Months from start to end.

The project funds will be used to procure essential medical equipment, including a biochemistry analyzer and an ultrasound scanner with a printer, to improve diagnostic capabilities. Additionally, the budget will cover the purchase of assistive devices such as generic wheelchairs and lounge beds to enhance patient comfort and mobility. A domestic water purification system will be installed to ensure access to safe and clean water, alongside an uninterrupted power supply system with surge protection to maintain reliable clinic operations. Furthermore, a portion of the funds will be dedicated to training community health workers, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to provide effective healthcare outreach and education.
