There is acute shortage of toilet facilities for Students and Teachers of (i) Community secondary School Rumunduru in Obio - Akpor Local Government area and (ii) Traders and their customers at Abuloma Main market , in Port Harcourt Local Government Area, both in Rivers State. Community Secondary School Rumunduru has a student population of about one thousand five hundred and has only two toilet rooms for the entire Students. The entire male and female students use only one toilet room respectively. This creates a poor sanitary, unhygienic and unhealthy learning environment and hence forcing many students to make use of adjoining bushes to help themselves when they feel pressed.

The Abuloma main Market has only one toilet room serving about 1,000 stall and their customers. This creates a situation where the female traders rush to the nearby water side to satisfy their toilet and hygiene needs thereby creating an unhealthy situation for both the traders and their customers, and constituting environmental challenge for the Community.

The project funds, requested by our club, will be used to provide Community Secondary School Rumunduru and Abuloma Community main Market with 1No. six - room toilet block, 1No. solar powered 2.5HP submersible pump and solar panels, 3.5Kva Inverter unit and lithium ion batteries, 2,000 litres of plastic tank storage facility and 1No. Steel tank stand, to help improve the sanitation and hygiene challenges in the school and Market, reduce the chances of diseases and infections especially amongst the girls and ladies, provide an improved learning and business environment for both the students and teachers of the School and traders in the Market, and reduced expenditure from medical treatment caused by infections from the present toilet.

The project is expected to be delivered in 8 months; from July 2025 to February 2026. This timeline will allow for the provision of funds, competitive selection of Vendors for procurements of equipment and materials and setting up of project team.

There will be a dedicated project team to handle the projects. However, all club members will be encouraged to visit the project sites on weekly basis till the projects are delivered.

The direct beneficiaries of this project are about 1,500 students of the Community Secondary school Rumunduru, their parents and teachers. Also, the proposed WASH facility at the Abuloma Community main Market will benefit about 1,000 traders, their customers and the entire Community.
