Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Nigeria

Location: Port Harcourt

Total Budget: $46,200

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

There is acute shortage of toilet facilities for Students and Teachers of (i) Community secondary School Rumunduru and (ii) Community Secondary School Rukpokwu, both in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State. Each of the two Schools have students populations of about one thousand five hundred and eight hundred respectively, each with only two toilet rooms for the entire Students. The entire male and female students population use only one toilet room respectively. This creates a poor sanitary, unhygienic and unhealthy learning environment and hence forcing many students to make use of adjoining bushes to help themselves when they feel pressed.

The project funds, requested by our club, will be used to provide each of the two Schools with 1No. six - room toilet block, 1No. solar powered 2.5HP submersible pump and solar panels, 3.5Kva Inverter unit and lithium ion batteries, 2,000 litres of plastic tank storage facility and 1No. Steel tank stand, to help improve the sanitation and hygiene challenges in the schools, reduce the chances of diseases and infections especially amongst the girls and provide an improved learning environment for both the students and teachers and reduced expenditure from medical treatment caused by infections from the present toilets.

The project is expected to be delivered in 8 months; from July 2025 to February 2026. This timeline will allow for the provision of funds, competitive selection of Vendors for procurements of equipment and materials and setting up of project team.

There will be a dedicated project team to handle the projects. However, all club members will be encouraged to visit the project sites on weekly basis till the projects are delivered

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
