The Dutse Community Forest Neighborhood project (GG2569908) redevelops a community area that has been decimated by climate change and overuse. The project redesigns the area's water drainage configuration and plants 600 trees, benefitting over 1000 residents in the area. The community forest serves three primary purposes:
1. Supports local enterprise through commercial agroforest harvesting (nuts and fruits) by area landholders,
2. Provides a lush canopy establishing a new community park / recreation area,
3. Addresses environmental degradation - providing the community with better air, water, and temperature mitigation.
Project goal:
This project utilizes the run-off water from the lower Usman Dam that runs through the water body at the boundary between Dutse Buampa and Dutse Sagbagyi to create an Integrated Agroforest Community Neighborhood Park to serve the carbon sink and recreational needs of the community.
Project Targets:
- Direct project beneficiaries: 200 Community Household Land owners
- Indirect project beneficiaries: 50 Community Volunteers.
- Area residents utilizing public recreation area - 2000 annually
Project objective:
1. To establish a two-hectare community woodlot with 600 native and exotic high breed commercial plants from 5 species in two years.
2. To establish alternative culture sensitive and economically viable livelihood income generating scheme for 200 Dutse Neighborhoods Forest household land-holders in Dutse community within 2 years.
3. To control the damaging runoff and degradation of soil within the project demarcated area in the first project year.
4. To integrate a culturally sensitive recreation facility suited for socio-cultural engagements in promotion of improved semi-urban rural life style within two years.
