Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: Uganda

Location: Obalanga

Total Budget: $42,000

Area of Focus: Community economic development

The main objective of this project is to help the communities in Obalanga subcounty:

1. To generate income and create employment opportunities for its youths from goat farming.

2. To make the people of this area easily access quality goat meat in their diets and create a common market for their goat products.

3. To create good goat breeding cells from which the farmers can get improved breeds of goat kids for sale or for their herds.

4. To create sites (of model farmers) of observation to the young but future entrepreneurs, especially the girl children and youths who are still at school.

5. To provide accessible potable water to the communities for both domestic use, irrigating vegetable gardens and watering their animals.

6. To provide security for the goats by teaching local farmers how to use local materials to build goat shelters.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
