It is no secret to anyone that the confinement caused by COVID19 affected all students psychologically, socially and educationally. The last 2 years of the pandemic have meant radical changes in the way we work, relate to each other and educate ourselves. Without a doubt, one of the most tremendous challenges was for the educational sector and its millions of students. The reconversion and adjustment of study programs, the sudden adoption of various means, systems and technological platforms without a clear or standardized strategy, added to the insufficient and poorly prepared infrastructure <> that families were able to provide to school-age minors, aggravated the great problem of learning and performance in mathematics and language that basic education students had evidenced in the last PLANEA test applied by the Ministry of Education throughout the country.
Among the most relevant results, it was estimated that 59% of 6th grade students insufficiently solved basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) with natural numbers. An additional 18% showed only basic mastery.
On a scale of 200 to 800 possible points in the PLANEA test, the state of Sonora reached 512 points, that is, 64% of the expected knowledge. Sinaloa 507 points, that is, 63% of the expected knowledge; while the states of Baja California 496, that is, 62% of the expected knowledge, and Baja California Sur barely 491 points, that is, only 61% of the expected knowledge, leaving these last 2 states below the national average, which corresponds to 503 points.

Mathematics is essential for the optimal intellectual development of children: it helps them to be logical and prepare their minds for reasoning, analysis and abstraction. We are always using a mathematical function, adding, subtracting, dividing or multiplying to perform different day-to-day activities.
In the educational field, mathematics builds attitudes and values in students, guaranteeing solidity in their reasoning and fundamentals, security in procedures and confidence in the results obtained.
On the other hand, by using new methods to teach mathematics through games, practical experiments and critical thinking, it is possible to considerably stimulate learning in teachers and students, and in both cases raise their academic performance.
Since 2015, an innovative teaching method has been gaining ground and proving its effectiveness and usefulness to achieve the goal of learning and mastering the mental calculation of the 4 basic mathematical operations. To achieve its promise of learning, the method called "Mathematical Magic Circles" (CMM) is based on games and mnemonics, according to the most recent conclusions drawn by neuroscience on the functioning of the human brain in the teaching process learning. Its greatest success story has been with the Secretary of Public Education of Sonora, which has been incorporating it since 2018, initially as a Curriculum Autonomy Club and within the class plan in front of a group, subsequently managing to impact some 35,000 students. from elementary school.
These are the reasons why this project will integrate 5th and 6th grade students from public elementary schools in Rotary International District 4100."
The project poses a high positive impact on the lives of more than 160,000 public elementary school students, more than 5,000 teachers and more than 1,200 directors in each of the 30 different locations where there is a presence of Rotary Clubs within District 4100.
With resources from the global grant, we will purchase 10,000 Math Magic Circle Kits to instruct 160,000 students, we will also train 5,000 teachers and 1,200 elementary principals, as well as 70 Rotary club presidents, 18 governors' representatives and the entire committee of service projects.
It is through the mastery of basic mathematical operations, through the creation of fun game-based environments, it is intended to have a profound impact on the lives of all students, reducing their fear and rejection towards mathematics, reducing also the probability of frustration and school desertion, helping to increase enrollment in exact sciences careers and enhancing the possibilities of accessing better stages of individual and collective well-being.
