The purpose of this grant is to:
-Harden critical infrastructure in the City of Chernihiv by supporting the installaation of solar on two hospitals and two schools/shelters. The Rotary Clubs of Kyiv-Capital (Ukraine) and Babcock Ranch (Florida, USA) are working with the Net Zero World Initiative (NZW), a flagship international initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), implemented by DOE's national laboratories, led by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). NREL is performing the engineering studies that are establishing the needed size of the solar systems and the costs. We will be using NREL templates to structure a tender, and will make the project available to bidders who are members of the Ukraine Solar Energy Association. Our team's solar professionals will join Ukrainian solar experts to review and select the bid winner.
-Increase career pathways for 100 Ukrainian veterans by promoting training and certification in a broad array of solar job categories (design, installation, sales and maintenance) in cooperation with the Polytechnic universities of Kyiv and Chernihiv, as well as with Atmosfera Academy, a leading Ukraine solar installation training school, and several solar businesses.
Because the project involves both solar installation and solar workforce development, it will be completed in three phases:
1. Solar for Chernihiv City Hospital #2 (600-bed hospital) plus launch of Kharkiv/Chernihiv Polytechnic Institutes Workforce Development Program. The below budget is for Phase 1.
2. Solar for Chernihiv Maternity House KNP (200-bed) and expansion of the Workforce Development Program to include additional polytechnic institutes (Poltava Polytechnic).
3. Solar for two schools (#11 and #4) and continued expansion of the Workforce Program to additional educational institutions (Chernivtsi Polytechnic).
