Project Description

Region: Africa

Country: South Africa

Location: Port Elizabeth

Total Budget: $63,800

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

KleinSkool Pre- school is a small little school in Port Elizabeth in a very disadvantaged area. The school was established by a church organisation in an attempt to encourage basic stimulation of the little children in the area who were often left alone. After a while in became apparent that this was a great service and the school expanded with volunteer teachers to offer a daily programme. Over time , it became apparent that feeding the children was a critical component on a dialy basis. The Board of the school is well established now and enjoys support from many businesses to offer feeding. The little school is neat and clen but is does not have ablution faciitlies - two portable toilets are on site but this is sorely not enough. Our rotary club would like to erect an ablution facility and sink a borehole to obtain water. This is in a drought prone part of Port Elizabeth.

DDF contributions in grey are pending approval of the corresponding district committee.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
