Clean Water for Kids

History Logs

Project Description

Region: Central America

Country: Mexico

Location: Ensenada

Total Budget: $47,739

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

In the city of Ensenada the tap water is not drinkable, the state water commission (CESPE Comisión Estatal de Servicios Públicos de Ensenada BC http://www.cespe.gob.mx/public/Infraestructura) only cleans and treats the water with chlorine for house and industry use, it's not meant to be drinkable water because it still has minerals and other components that can make you sick if you drink it directly.

Provide purified water to students and relatives of low-income primary schools to improve their health by avoiding gastrointestinal diseases.

It is intended to install a water purifier system of 400lts in 10 schools with an average of 330 students plus 3 family members per student, so 9,900 people from the urban and sub-urban area of Ensenada would be supported.

Water purifier system equipment by school:

-Water filters

-Water pumps

-Reverse osmosis membrane

-Water tank

-UV lamp

-Water softener
