Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Delhi

Total Budget: $200,000

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

We propose an eye hospital in the Tughlakabad Institutional Area, Vayusenabad, New Delhi. This would be a Rotary-Dr Shroff's Charity Eye Hospital (SCEH) joint venture and would be run by SCEH. The region where this hospital is located, has densely populated residential areas around it with colonies like Sangam Vihar,Tuglakabad extension, Khanpur etc. Population of Sangam Vihar alone is estimated to be more than 10 lakhs. There are two multi-specialty hospitals nearby but no dedicated eye care hospital. We propose a hospital which would also be providing high quality free and subsidized surgeries to those who cannot afford expensive care. SCEH already has been working using the cross subsidy model and has been working with Rotary in Karol Bagh centre. Although the centre would focus on the most common eye issues which are responsible for visual impairment (uncorrected refractive error and cataract), there would be provision for diagnosis of other important conditions like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration. Management of these non-cataract conditions would be done at this new proposed facility and those requiring very specialized care would be referred to our tertiary centre at Daryaganj. To reach out to patients in need, we propose 2 vision centres to be opened in the region and link the referrals to this facility. This project is proposed by the Rotary Action Group for Blindness Prevention.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
