Project Description

Region: North America

Country: Mexico

Location: Ensenada

Total Budget: $47,000

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

In the USA and many parts of the developed world we take for granted that lost or trapped outdoor enthusiasts are likely to find a nearby rescue organization to get them out of trouble.

In Baja's vast and difficult terrain, that is not the case. There is no official governmental rescue organization. If for some reason, someone were to become stranded or in need of medical attention. It is likely, well intentioned and not well-equipped firefighters/rescue personnel may attempt a rescue if the location is fairly near their base of operations. In many cases, there are no local rescue organizations to come to the aid of those in need. Imagine a loved one, in a situation where they are trapped, and there is no one properly trained and equipped to provide assistance.

Outdoor enthusiasts enjoy the Baja wilderness throughout all seasons. These folks are largely Americans who are divers, kayakers, campers amongst other outdoor enthusiasts. These people are more at risk of becoming ill, or involved in an accident at any given moment. They can be comforted to know that a dedicated rescue organization is just a call away. EN SAR: Ensenada Search and Rescue is a highly experienced group of passionate volunteers, who take care of outdoor enthusiasts in trouble as well as train local Fire Departments. EN SAR travels great distances often at their own expense to help people in trouble.

ENSAR needs your help in sourcing and funding a new vehicle and related equipment, roughly $47,000 USD.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
