Project Description Region: Asia Country: India Location: Maharashtra Total Budget: $54,000 Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment Global Grant Synopsis: Rotary Rajarshi Shahu Blood Collection Center (Bank) is one of the renowned blood banks of Kolhapur in service to community since 1975 and we need a new crayofuge machine. In the early years blood used to be transported via bus to mumbai in glass bottles seeing such a situation RC Kolhapur initiated and founded the Blood bank project with the help of Red Cross Society and Kolhapur Shetkari Sangh. Ever since that its proving to be a boon for Kolhapur. Today this bank is equipped with state of the are machines which are at par with all International standards again thanks to the Grants Program of TRF. Blood collection and donation is safest in the town with no risk of HIV adulteration due to advance machines like NAT installed at lab. As you know after blood collection first important step we follow is blood component separation in to plasma, platelets Red Blood Cells these are used to treat different type of illnesses which is a key for prevention and treatment of diseases. This component separation is achieved by crayofuge machine. Currently we have 2 such machines out of which 1 has completed its age and bank is operational on only 1 machine. This machine is also of less capacity resulting into a high waiting time for patients. Also in case of a shut down of the existing machine, blood supply will stop.
