Global Grant Synopsis:

500 Girl Child in Rural areas will be Immunized against Cervical Cancer. Cervical cancer is one of the common cancers in women in developing countries at the age of 45. Cervical cancer is one of the leading cancer among women in India, accounting for 96,922 new cases and 60,078 deaths annually and contributes to one-fifth of women cancers in India. The incidence in Asian population was higher than that seen in other regions of the world.

The cause of cervical cancer is "Human Papilloma Virus" infection which is a sexually transmitted disease.

In order to prevent the human papilloma virus infection and its complications like Cervical cancer, the girls should be immunized with vaccination before their sexual life starts (between the age of 11 to 15). As this vaccine is not included in national immunization program, it is not available free of cost and there is less awareness about this preventive vaccination against cervical cancer in the semi urban and rural communities.

To create awareness in community for immunization against human papilloma virus and prevention of cervical cancer, Rotary club of Sangli, District Police Administration and the District Health administration services are planning for a proto type program in Sangli District.

Girls from rural area belonging from police constable families and farmers families will be immunised by giving two injections of vaccines against human papilloma virus. Each girl will receive minimum 2 doses of vaccine upto the age of 15 years, the girls above the age of 15 years needs 3 doses.

The doses will be procured through Rotary Global Grant project and will be administered through District health administration's primary health services/ designated vaccination hospitals. We are planning for immunization of 500 girls in first phase as prototype plan in Sangli District.

Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
