The objective of the project is to frame strategy and tactics in order to establish a sustainable environmental
behaviors approach in children studying in 2 public schools and 1 public kindergarden, their families, community
members by reforestoration of public park Nadejda in Sofia, Bulgaria, Europe.
The project may serve as game changer approach for other communities. Challenges identified through research
executed by Sofia municipality "Nadejda" and Rotary Community Corps "Nadejda" revealed that
- the awareness between children (from the schools/ kindergarten), their families and park visitors on sustainable
environment approaches, circular economies (recycling, upcycling and repurposing) is low
- the utilization of public park "Nadejda" from children from the nearby situated 2 schools, 1 kindergarden and
park visitors is low due to low level of preservance, low level of afforestation and poor infrastructure;
RC Sofia Vitosha in partnership with Sofia city Municipality, Municipality Nadejda, RCC "Nadejda" and the
Management boards of 2 public schools (High School 15 "Adam Mickiewicz", High School 54 St. Ivan Rilski)
and 1 kindergarden (6-th kindergarden "Valsheben sviat") situated near park "Nadejda" identified a need for
consolidated strategy and tactics to facilitate sustainable mindset change towards improving environment by
involving teachers, children, their parents and citizens living in the area. The targeted group for the project will
be around 10 000 people: 105 Kids (5-18 years old), 8 school teachers, 210 Kid's family members, 250 Park
Nadejda current users per day and 9622 citizens living next to the park (Data from Municipality registers).
Within the next years the project is planned to be expanded within the 2 public schools by utilizing key learning's
and including more students, thus increasing the number of park activities and utilization.
