Project Description

Region: Eastern Europe

Country: Serbia

Location: Belgrade

Total Budget: $93,800

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Republic of Serbia, within the school system, have 1295 primary schools that have the subject of computer science and informatics from 5th to 8th grade in the curriculum. Programming as a subject starts from the 5th grade with programming languages that are usable for programming drones. The story regarding Drones for ICT classrooms started in December 2019, when ten Rotary clubs provided funds and donated to 25 primary schools in 12 cities and municipalities. Overall plan is to provide enough drones for every school in the educational system of Serbia. After the pilot that covered 25 primary schools, continued through the project supported by The Rotary Foundation and covered 670 schools, with 670 drones. Aim of this project is to cover all schools alround Serbia and put primary school pupils digital knowledge on the higher level.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, in cooperation with Rotary Clubs, will announce a public invitation for participation in the project. A commission composed of representatives of the Ministry and the Roraty Club will prescribe the criteria and conditions of the competition, on the basis of which they will select the schools that will receive drones. It is not mandatory for one school to receive one drone, it is possible for one school to receive two or more drones depending on the size of the school and a number of pupils. The program includes teacher training for the implementation of knowledge transfer that encourages the development pupils way of thinking, problem solving and the development of digital literacy. After trainings are implemented, an online network of primary schools will be formed, which will then have the opportunity to, through mutual cooperation, exchange examples of good practice and solve possible doubts and problems.

The project covers primary schools in the Republic of Serbia within District 2843.

Ministry of Education along with RC Cukarica implemented a pole among primary schools and the output is that schools showed interest for more than 500 drones.
