Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: Bhutan

Location: Thimphu

Total Budget: $61,360

Area of Focus: The environment

The "Reforestation of Bhutan's Forests" Project is intended to restore, through restocking of its forests, Bhutan's forest cover that is at risk of depletion due to increased developmental activities. For the benefit of the environment and the human race, including the animals, Bhutan has made a Constitutional commitment to maintain 60% forest coverage of its land mass, for all times to come. Such a commitment puts a heavy burden on

the country and its population. However, Bhutan is committed to uphold its promise - to ensure that the environment, the human and the animal species remain safe and protected.

A project named Bhutan Forest Restoration (BFR) in collaboration with the Royal Government of Bhutan is initiating a tree plantation project to repopulate a forest area measuring 100 acres, at a location called Kuenselphodrang in Thimphu, Western Bhutan. Under the initiative, a total of 50,000 tree saplings will be planted. The tree species chosen for plantation are: Blue Pine, Chir Pine, Rhododendron, Dogwood, Oak, Cherry and Peach.

The human race, the animal kingdom and the environment will be the beneficiaries of this Global Grant. The monies will support a water tanker and watering equipment, boring and digging equipment for planting the trees. Purchase of trees and more.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
