The Senior Citizens' Corner of São Carlos do Ivaí has been located in the city of São Carlos do Ivaí/PR/Brazil for over 20 years. Currently, the board is composed of a president, Mr. Cassio Menezes, a vice-president, Mr. Claudio Gimenes, and a treasurer, Mr. Arlindo Flores, in addition to having a staff that manages Recanto together with the board. This entity is financially maintained through a part of the retirement of the elderly residents, promotions, in addition to sporadic donations from third parties, individuals and legal entities. The staff consists of nineteen (19) people who take turns in shifts, for 24 hours a day, including an administrative director, an administrative assistant, a pharmacy attendant, a specialist in physiotherapy, a nutritionist, a Social Worker, Psychologist, Nursing Technician, also caregivers of the elderly, janitor, laundress, general service assistant, cooks, and watchman/caregiver. Forty-five (45) elderly people currently reside in Recanto. Of these, some are bedridden and/or do not have lower limbs. The volume of dirty clothes is very significant, reaching approximately 100 kg daily. The beneficiary entity develops a project for the prevention and control of diseases of its inmates such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, wheelchair users and the bedridden, in addition to the voluntary partnership of doctors from the local community. The objective of this project is to improve the health and hygiene infrastructure of this location by providing an industrial laundry for the efficient washing process of bed and bath linen, thus curbing the risk of contamination among the elderly and employees; the acquisition of hydraulic winches for transferring patients (bedridden or disabled), the acquisition of a gym for the elderly and offering a course for caregivers of the elderly.
