This is an old folks retirement home named Cobijo San Jose, located on the outskirts of Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico. This retirement home is the only on in the municipality of Guaymas, whose population is 175K. El Cobijo was first started by local Catholic priests back in 1983, with the help of the San Carlos rotary Club. Back in 2009, hurricane Jimena destroyed most of the facility, flooding the main grounds and insides of the mail building with mud. The project consists of three phases, and only the first one has been funded by other clubs and individual donations. Phase one consisted of the rehabilitation of the northeast dormitories with new beds, night tables & linens, new bathrooms, showers & sinks, refurbishment of walls, ceilings & floors, hydraulic & sanitary installations, new electrical wiring, new air conditioners, closets, common area & connecting hallway accessibility, storage room, wheelchair accessibility, kitchen appliances, bedroom heat pumps and cooling systems. What Phase two pursues is to refurbish and furnish the southeast dormitories with all of the above mentioned needs in order to provide a dignifying place for living.
