The Government Girls Higher Secondary School is the oldest and renowned school in Aranthangi Educational District that function with girl students exclusively. It is the only exclusive government girls school that caters to educational needs of poor children in a town with around 50000 population. The school houses students belonging to Upper primary(classes VI to VIII), Secondary (IX,X) and Higher Secondary (XI,XII) Divisions.
The school functioned with a total of 1587 girl students and 56 staff members during the Academic year 2020-21. The school has produced many rank holders at the district level in the past. Education is provided free of cost to all students. The campus houses adequate classrooms, laboratories, library etc. Whereas sanitation and toilet facilities were grossly inadequate as the present facility is in dilapidated condition. Students resort to use open spaces to attend nature's call, which is unhygienic as well as unsafe. Also there is a need for hand washing stations as many students belong to lower socioeconomic strata and consume free noon meal provided at the school. The sanitation needs of students who have attained puberty also needs to be addressed. The school also has some physically challenged students, who require additional toilet facilities. Our club conducted a community survey and interacted with students and staff members during which these deficiencies were highlighted. There is immediate need for an integrated sanitation complex that houses toilets, wash rooms and hand washing stations.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
