Despite all the bodies of water and water resources, the Colombian Atlantic department exists in areas where drinkable water is scarce and, in many months of the year, it is impossible to access this beautiful resource and to have it of good quality. This generates the deterioration of the quality of life, health and economy of the population. This implies that 32% of the populations of the Colombian North Coast is at risk of rationing the vital liquid. Also, 65% of the towns of the Atlantic department has problems with drinking water, as confirmed by the Departmental Assembly that created a commission to study the provision of this service. The problems with the drinking water service that today affect most of the inhabitants of rural areas of the Atlantic are related to the lack of coverage or the low quality indices of the precious liquid.
INTEGRAL PROJECT: AQUA-SER-NORTE
Main objective, the contribution to: PEACE-EQUITY-EDUCATION
The project intends to reach these rural populations and contribute to the development of the community. We want to be able to implement long-term sustainable programs to improve the supply of water, sanitation, hygiene, health, of children, youth, families in rural areas and populations that suffer from brackish water, a scarce way to obtain this resource and how to keep it stored in dry seasons, in order to preserve their health, conflict resolution, economy and quality of life. Leading this beautiful project, we will be able to reach much more population, and work on water purification, education on hygienic habits and waste management, with association with foundations that support us in improving the health of residents, waste management for environmental protection; We have alliances with local organizations to install a rainwater collection system, we have already been impacting a very large population and now together we want to reach a population of 5000 young people in schools, training them on the management and preservation of water, recycling and in rural populations, about 150 families, so that they guarantee the sustenance of their families and there is no mobilization to the cities due to lack of basic resources and poor quality of life. We have mainly supported populations in the Atlantic and Magdalena departments in Colombia.
The resources that we are fundraising for the BIO-SER-NORTE project, will be used for:
- 200 BioSand Filters Solar Panels (only for families in rural areas far from municipalities).
- Training them for their use, maintenance and care.
- 200 families Training in schools on caring for water and the environment (5000 children).
- Prevention campaigns in nutrition, comprehensive health.
- 200 families Training in organic waste management, recycling, promotion of equity and peace.
- 6,000 people between children and adults.
We must prevent future problems by mitigating and planning these programs so that they are self-sustaining. Alongside, the project should tend to increase the love and passion of the population involved so that they appropriate of the territories where they were born and raised. This will help reduce the collateral damage their families suffer from considering mobilizing to bigger cities due to their poor quality of life.
