Project Description

Region: South-East Asia

Country: India

Location: Navi Mumbai

Total Budget: $30,500

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

There is a need to collect more blood round the year. While larger blood donation camps are organized regularly, it is not feasible to do it too frequently. A mobile blood donation van will help us a long way. This eliminates the logistic efforts involved in blood collection. This mobile van will be on move all the time, will be parked in area of high footfalls to look for potential donors. Moreover, the same van can be used to collect blood in residential societies, colleges, and large corporate offices across Navi Mumbai without much hassle.

To address this issues, Rotary in Navi Mumbai, plans to set up a mobile blood bank to generate a continuous supply of blood, throughout the year, to support these children with Thalassemia, who need blood transfusion once every two to three weeks. This blood bank will not only benefit the Thalassemic children, but also all people who need blood in general.

We propose to have a four seater mobile van for this where four donors can simultaneously donate blood. This van will be equipped with all the facilities needed to store the blood and medical equipment. It will also have a place for medical person to sit and will have a canopy that can be extended out to make a seating area for patients.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
