Region: Asia

Country: Nepal

Location: Kavre District - Nepal

Total Budget: $79,850

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

The Nepal Earthquake of 2015 damaged over 7,553 educational institutions and still more than 2,500 are awaiting reconstruction. One of the most affected Nepali districts out of 17 districts is Kavre District. More than 500 schools are waiting for reconstruction. One of them is the Shree Devitar Primary School. Shree Devitar Primary School is only school that teaches up to class 8 in that areas of population more than 5000. Before earthquake there used to be more than 300 students. Since people migrated to town areas and started to live in rent due to damage of house, children have to go with them and joined town school. Since reconstruction work of house is going on, people have started to back to their village so does children , which has started to increase school enrollment in this Devitar School. Most of the children studying in this areas are from Tamang community (indigenous group depend upon agriculture for livelihood), So-called group and few from Brahmin Community. During earthquake most of the building were damaged & marked as danger by Nepal Government. School was struggling to run class. School Management Committee they ran here and any how repaired the school and made it suitable to run class again. 70% school building was repaired properly and made it like new one. They properly utilized the amount even the small amount & resources they get for school. Three additional earthquake-resistant classrooms have been requested by the school and community. The school has requested for these three new schoolrooms to be load-bearing and earthquake-resistant. In addition to the school rooms 4-toilets are budgeted. Lastly, 10 computers will be provided.
