Project Description Region: Africa Country: Uganda Location: East Africa Total Budget: $48,630 Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene View Online Proposal Form The project is for provision of water tanks to 30 rural schools/community centres in the rural areas. These Community schools are located about 340 kilometers from Kampala - the capital city in the Western Eastern and Cetral parts of Uganda.All the schools are community owned with boys and girls. Due to the fact that these schools are located deep in the villages they experience serious water shortages. The school children and teachers fetch water from downhill in water ponds/dams for drinking and washing. In addition to the health hazard paused by dirty water, a lot of teaching time is lost because water sources are located 2-3 kilometers from the schools. This has adversely affected the academic performance of these schools. Water borne diseases have also been reported in these schools. The project is also intended to provide water to these rural schools including some community centres. Approximately 10,000 students will benefit from this project.
