Rotary Club: La Jolla Golden Triangle Project Title: MexicanCleft lip/palate clinic 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? On 11/7/2025 all funds were donated to Scripps Health Foundation (see photos), the parent non-profit foundation for "Mercy Outreach Surgical Teams", to fund the next one or two cleft lip/ palate clinics in Mexico, projected for the 2025 - 2026 year in January and April. The $6000 has been "ear-marked" specifically for these cleft lip and palate clinics which will be overseen by trusted, plastic surgery colleagues and rotarians in Sunrise de Luna. We have a successful five year history of supporting this type of arrangement making life-changing surgery available to Mexican children. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Two clinics could provide cleft lip/palate surgery for up to 15 to 20 children, benefiting their families, and communities in their villages. 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? The children who have reconstructive surgery have all been from low- income Mexican families. The surgeries are provided at no cost to the families and most of the children would not be covered by Mexican State or Federal agency programs. Also many communities have limited surgical staff and resources to provide services and are unable to meet the needs of the communities. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? Every clinic has been supported by local Rotary clubs whose members usually provide transportation, logistical help in the hospital. Some of the surgeons are themselves local rotarians. 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. Rotarians provide transportation and logistical support for the team. We also have a close relationship with a few plastic surgical colleagues who donate their time and surgical skills in various communities. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Scripps Health Foundation is the non-profit fundraising organization that oversees the Mercy Outreach Surgical Teams projects. The Matching Grant Funds will now provide the funding for the clinics as needed, up to $6,000. Also, local rotary clubs provide logistical support, transportation, and lunches for the teams. 7.
