Rotary Club: Fairbanks Project Title: Tanana Lakes Rotary Park 1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place? The Rotary Pathway Playground at Tanana Lakes is a multi-year, $450K total project for the Rotary Club of Fairbanks. It is on track to be completed in summer 2023. The D5010 grant of $8,000 last year ($4K from district matched by $4K from the club) enabled our club to pay our landscape architect who holds a special certification in playground design. With the help of this grant, we were able to pay for the final, 100 percent drawings for the project, which was necessary in order for the project to move forward with all government and legal reviews. Once the playground is complete, it will be gifted to the Fairbanks North Star Borough. As such, the project must be designed by a certified, playground expert in such design. 2. How many people benefited from this project? Still in progress 3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met? There is currently one "pod" of play equipment on the site, with an additional 6 to be installed in summer 2023. Numerous bureaucratic hoops had to be jumped through with the Fairbanks North Star Borough in 2022-23, including approval by the assembly, a Memorandum of Agreement with the borough, and ongoing coordination with contractors, our club and the borough. As such, the beneficiaries are largely still to come. The humanitarian need that will be met when complete are all the children in the Fairbanks North Star Borough who visit the Tanana Lakes Recreation area, including children with disabilities as the park will be ADA compliant. 4. How many Rotarians participated in the project? 12 5. What did they do? Please give at least two examples, not including financial support provided to the project. This year, it has mostly been project management with the borough and contractors and the landscape architect. On the fundraising side, we secured enough private dollars through several donors, but chiefly through one donor (Bill Stroecker Foundation, at $25K) and the proceeds of our Chena River Run ($30K--a record for our club) to complete the project, along with an anticipated grant from the District, this summer. 6. If a cooperating organization was involved, what was its role? Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly and administration. They had to approve the MOA and be informed of all work, including contracts with two contractors. The borough and assembly required the playground design to be done by a playground certified landscape architect. The district grant of $4K, matched by our club, helped pay for the landscape architect's two invoices in 2022-23 year, which totaled $13,500 (see below). Existing club funds paid for the amount not covered by the grant. 7. Income
