The Rotary Club of Chinatown will conduct a series of workshops for (3 or 4) for parents and students focused on the Journey to College. The stress associated with the journey to college is a mental health challenge for both students and parents. High school students report experiencing stress related to academics, expectations, and quality of life.
The workshops will be individualized for parents only or students only focusing on stresses around college decision making and well- being. There will also be a workshop for parents on College Affordability and the College List.
The student workshops will focus on participatory activities for mental health recognition and awareness and resource sharing. It will include supportive team bonding and peer group sharing that will explore both physical and mental health opportunities and skills leading to living fulfilling, competent and safe lives as adults.
Participants will include students in the Chinatown Interact Club (Hunter High School) and other NYC public schools and their parents.
The goal of our training will be to serve a total of 60 participants over a 10-month period.
The first workshop is scheduled for August 23, 2026 and is described in an attached document.
Descriptions of follow on workshops for parents as well as students will be uploaded as documents.
