Youth Leadership Recognition Through Educational and Recreational Resources
Project Summary
The San Diego Coastal Rotary Club proposes the Youth Leadership Recognition Through Educational and Recreational Resources project to honor the dedication of participants in the Tijuana Youth Police Program. These young volunteers dedicate their weekends and personal time to leadership training, neighborhood patrols with community officers, civic education, emergency preparedness, and community service.
To recognize their commitment, Rotary will provide educational and recreational resources that promote learning, creativity, teamwork, healthy lifestyles, and family engagement. Participants will receive age-appropriate items such as soccer balls, basketballs, children's books, puzzles, STEAM learning kits, arts and crafts supplies, crayons, colored pencils, markers, educational toys, and other developmental resources. These items are intended to encourage creativity, critical thinking, physical activity, teamwork, and lifelong learning while recognizing each participant's commitment to serving their community.
The recognition event, scheduled for December or January, will celebrate the youth's volunteer service while reinforcing Rotary's commitment to peacebuilding, youth development, education, and community engagement. The project emphasizes positive reinforcement and investment in the next generation of community leaders.
Community Need
The Tijuana Youth Police Program offers young people a positive path through leadership development, civic responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and community service. Many participants come from underserved communities where access to educational and recreational resources is limited. Recognizing these youth with meaningful educational and recreational materials reinforces positive behaviors, encourages continued participation, and provides tools that support learning, creativity, problem-solving, physical activity, and social development beyond the classroom.
