Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Westchester, NY

Total Budget: $4,000

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: A workshop will equip 50 community members, senior citizens, Rotarians & caregivers with practical tools for mental wellness, healthy movement, early recognition of distress, supportive response, & connection to professional and crisis resources.

Community members often experience stress, social isolation, caregiving strain, sleep problems, and difficulty identifying when ordinary stress may require professional support. Language, stigma, cost concerns, and limited familiarity with available services can delay help-seeking. The Rotary E-Club of Sunshine, New York proposes Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, a culturally responsive community education project in Westchester.

The project will provide a free, three-hour interactive workshop for 50 adults, older adults, caregivers, and young adults aged 16 and above. Qualified mental-health and wellness professionals will explain the relationship between physical and mental well-being; common warning signs of persistent stress, anxiety, and depression; practical coping and resilience tools; safe ways to support a friend or family member; and how to connect with primary care, community treatment resources, 988, and emergency services. Instruction and participant materials will be provided, with additional language access arranged when feasible.

Project planning, partner confirmation, facilitator recruitment, and outreach will take place upon project approval. The workshop is planned for late this year. Follow-up resource distribution and evaluation will be completed with the final report submitted by the deadline. No grant funds will be spent before District approval.

Funds will pay for qualified facilitators, venue and audiovisual needs, participant lunch, participant workbooks, wellness-demonstration supplies, outreach materials, and follow-up evaluation. Rotary Club members will serve on the planning team, secure community partners and venues, recruit participants, manage attendees, welcome attendees, facilitate small-group activities, distribute resources, document attendance and expenditures, conduct pre-and-post workshop evaluations, and complete the required grant reporting.

Success will be measured by attendance, completed pre/post questionnaires, participant action plans, and a follow-up survey. The project is educational and does not provide diagnosis or treatment.
