Families living along the Rio Valley region of Mexico who are affected by tuberculosis face multiple, overlapping hardships. TB treatment requires strict medication adherence, stable nutrition, and sanitary living conditions-yet many families in this region experience food insecurity, inadequate housing supplies, and limited access to public health resources. These challenges increase the risk of treatment failure, reinfection, and continued transmission within the community.
Through collaboration with the Texas Department of Health's Binational TB Program, the Rotary E‑Club of North Texas identified three critical needs:
Reliable food support for TB patients and their families to ensure proper nutrition during treatment.
Basic household supplies to improve living conditions and reduce environmental factors that worsen TB outcomes.
Sustained humanitarian support to strengthen cross‑border public health efforts and reduce the burden on local health agencies.
These needs were confirmed through program data showing that families affected by TB often lack the resources necessary to maintain treatment regimens and household stability.
