Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Tijuana Mx

Total Budget: $15,000

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Activity Type: Community Development: Construction/Renovation

Summary: Coronado

Coronado Rotary has for the past 2 years gone to Tijuana(TJ) Mexico to construct residences for indigent residents there. Generally we have 20 participants, and the cost is about $8000 per house. The firest year, wwe built one house, this past spring we did two. Our team meets at the border ata 6 am on the work day, is accompanied into Mexico by the program leaders to the job site. We spend the day painting the structure, and putting it together. Professional carpenters are on hand to precut the wood. Foundations are laid in advance. At days end, ususally about 4 pm. a residence is ready for occupancy by a family.

The goal this year is to construct two, and perhaps three new residences. Our club picks up the balance of the costs above the District Grant.
