Groundwork San Diego works at the intersection of climate and social justice with strong university and community partnerships to deliver education, green infrastructure and climate safe neighborhoods in Southeastern San Diego. The main learning facility of Groundwork is the Earthlab Climate Action Park, a 4-acre experiential educational space located next to Millennial Tech Middle School for youth and community from the underserved Chollas Creek watershed. The Earthlab Method operates as a portfolio of lessons and activities designed to improve understanding of nature, climate, ecology and scientific literacy. The Pollinator Learning Station partners are taking shape and we plan to get this learning station up and running for the new school year starting in August. We know the improvements to the learning station to optimize student activities will continue through the 2026-2027 school year.
The Composting Learning Station has a basic compost structure at EarthLab but needs several enhancements to provide a robust learning environment for the students. Additionally, we want to add vermicomposting operations to further enhance the students' understanding and add to our hand-on STEM projects.
