Project Description Country: USA Location: Timnath Total Budget: $6,000 Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Community economic development Activity Type: Community Development: Construction/Renovation Summary: Lumber provided to Timnath Middle/High School for students in shop class to build houses for Juarez, Mexico This program teaches high school students to design and build the walls and roofs of small homes. These are then transported to Ciudad Juárez, where they are assembled into a comfortable home for an unhoused family. More than 50 homes have been built from this program. The funding will provide enough lumber to create two houses and have them shipped to Juarez, Mexico. Students learn the skills necessary to build walls and roofs. The people in Juarez receive new homes for families who don't have one. Our club memebers are involved with the teachers at Timnath Middle/High School during the construction phase, the club arranges for shipping of the finished walls and roof to Juarez, and some of our members will travel to Juarez to work with the members of the Ciudad Rotary Club to put the house together and do the installation of the utilities, windows, doors, etc. Hopefully, our members can be there to present the new house to the recipient family.
